The global parenting retailer Mothercare, has now bought the remaining share of the social networking site for mums Gurgle.com.
They previously had a stake, but due to growth and perceived opportunity they have now become sole owners, replacing Fleming Media.
According to their startegy, Gurgle.com is aiming to become the leading information and social media brand in the UK pregnancy and parenting sector.
No doubt they have ambition to grow overseas too. Obvious competition from the likes of babycentre and mumsnet is fierce, but according to the PR release, Mothercare and Gurgle believe this acquisition provides a significant advantage and opportunity to both parties.
Jeremy Maxwell, Mothercare direct channels director, says: “Gurgle.com has grown rapidly, with around 300,000 unique visitors per month and over 100,000 members who already ‘gurgle’ with each other.
“With the full backing of Mothercare gurgle.com now has the opportunity to increase its reach dramatically, to invest in new site functionality, and to provide its users with an even more engaging experience.”
